Farmer Turned Producer – Brett Davis
I cant say that I always knew I wanted to be an actor or producer or even involved at all with the industry. Truth of the matter is, I knew absolutely nothing about the entertainment industry until about 6 years ago when I blindly got introduced.
I grew up in a pretty sheltered lifestyle, not on purpose by my parents, but that was just the way it was in the small town. In fact, you couldn’t even call it a town that I grew up in, it was a farm, and a damn good farm at that. An 800 acre block of land on the Eastern shore of Maryland. An absolutely beautiful area located right on the Sassafras River. Our farm is about 10 minutes away from the closest town, and even that town only had 1 stop light, 1 small market, a post office, a church and a grade school, my grade school.
There was no MTV, ESPN, definitely no HBO, just the local Maryland channels. But I didn’t care about TV anyway. I was the young child of a farmer, I had an 800 acre playground right out my back door where I could do anything I wanted and not get caught. My cousins lived on the farm as well, they were my partners in crime, along with my brother. We were lucky enough to have 4 wheelers (ATV’s) and about 200 acres of woods to run wild in. We would spends days making trails and building forts, all the cool stuff that any young boy would dream to have right out his doorstep.
Of course many annoying chores came with living on the farm. When we weren’t out running wild we were in the barnyard working with the pigs, cutting grass or working on machinery. Wether it was 80 degrees and sunny or 40 degrees and rainy we always had chores to do and we always did em!
I’m sure I threw many fits as a child not wanting to work when I could be out playin….but if I could go back and relive some of those days right now…I’d do it in a second!!
to be continued….
