SYNOPSIS HUMAN TRAFFICKING DETKA STATUS DETKA (SHORT FILM) INQUIRES
Natasha is married to Russian mobster Sergei, who “promoted” her from his sex-trafficking empire to the role of trophy bride…
She plays her part well, but at the end of the night, Sergei goes to bed with other WOMEN, and sends Natasha out to work.
Work means the Juice Bar, a strip club owned by Sergei where Natasha runs the register. Though respected by the other DANCERS, she can do little more than grin and bear her lot in life. That night, she gets in a cab driven by the world-weary and stoic BISS, in whose eyes she finds an immediate connection. He drives her home without a word, but that night in his apartment, he finds himself unable to sleep.
Over the next several nights, he becomes her regular driver, even though they hardly speak to each other. But one night, Biss knocks out a CREEP at a diner who was molesting Natasha, and the ice is broken. Over dinner, she tells him of her early life traveling and how she met Sergei, while he tells her of his youth as a boxer. It’s pleasant, but they’re both clearly hiding something. After driving her home, he pulls her in for an embrace, but Natasha, terrified, pushes him away. Sure enough, once inside, Sergei senses Natasha hiding something and tries to slap the truth out of her.
A few nights later, when Natasha gets in Biss’s cab again, she has him take her to his place instead, where they immediately find they can no longer contain their passion for each other. But it is not long before Natasha panics and runs home, vowing never to see Biss again.
But they can’t escape each other, and one night Natasha finally tells Biss everything. How she was kidnapped as a teenager in Moldova, and found herself enslaved, forced to have sex with anyone who could pay. How eventually one customer, Sergei,
followed through on his promise to give her a better life. He bought her and took her home to Brooklyn, she doesn’t love him, but she feels bound to him. Her revelation leaves Biss speechless.
Natasha tries to return to her routine, but finding someone who cares about her has shaken her world more than she ever thought possible. She returns to Biss, who finally opens up about his life. He tells her of his youth as a boxer, and the one man, EDDIE, who believed in him. But Biss was unable to save Eddie from his own addiction, and has been haunted by the image of Eddie’s gruesome death by overdose for years. With so much pain in his past, he’s unafraid of anything the present might bring, and determines to face Sergei.
He doesn’t have long to wait, because SERGEI and his HENCHMEN have found them out and break into the building. Biss pulls Natasha out the fire escape and a desperate chase through the city ensues. Biss brutally fights off the henchmen who get too close, but Sergei is relentless, not letting a crowded subway or even armed POLICEMEN stop him.
Finally, and inevitably, Sergei gets the drop on them and holds Biss at gunpoint. But Natasha notices a picture of her and her FATHER that’s fallen out of Sergei’s pocket. She asks him about it, and Sergei tells her the whole truth. She wasn’t kidnapped, her father sold her to Sergei out of desperation. He didn’t save her from her life as a sex slave, he was the one who forced her into it, wanting to profit from her youth before he married her.
In a blind rage at this revelation, Natasha attacks. Sergei is stronger, but Biss jumps in to the rescue and kills Sergei.
The cops appear at that moment to arrest them, but when they help the authorities break up the sex-trafficking ring, they are set up in the witness protection program. They have the new lives they always wanted.

Sell a drug once but sell a person forever…
Human trafficking has become the 3rd largest criminal industry in our world and its on the rise toward #1. A multi-billion dollar business, it racks more profit annually then Google, Starbucks and Nike combined!
But you can’t fight hate with more hate! DETKA takes a unique approach by telling its story through the lens of hope and love.
DETKA bore its roots from a personal experience that writer David Waknine encountered on a trip to Poland years back. After a long day of shooting he was at a bar with fellow cast members when a confrontation broke out between a girl and what appeared to be her abusive boyfriend. The argument turned ugly when the man laid a definitive slap across her face. As David leapt forward to intervene he found himself restrained by a friend who cautioned “Don’t. Things are different here.” He soon realized that this woman was considered “property” and not in fact an equal. This provided the impulse for him to write DETKA (short film version) huddled on the floor outside of the restroom that plane ride home.
